Every year, businesses generate massive volumes of usable surplus — food nearing its sell-by date, excess raw materials, manufacturing offcuts, and overstocked inventory — that ends up discarded simply because there is no fast, reliable way to find someone who needs it before it expires or becomes worthless. Globally, over 1 billion tons of food is wasted annually while millions face food insecurity, and industrial surplus adds billions more in disposal costs and landfill volume. Businesses lose money on disposal fees and missed recovery value; nonprofits and smaller businesses struggle to source affordable or free supply; and the environmental cost compounds through unnecessary landfill methane emissions and wasted production resources. Existing solutions fall short: manual listing processes are too slow for perishable or time-sensitive surplus, most platforms serve only a single vertical (food or industrial materials, never both), matching is often static rather than distance- and need-aware, and there is no built-in way for donors to prove their environmental impact for growing ESG and compliance requirements (like the EU's CSRD). The core problem: there is no unified, low-friction, AI-driven system that can identify surplus the moment it exists, match it intelligently to the nearest business or nonprofit that needs it, coordinate efficient pickup, and quantify the resulting impact — fast enough to act before the surplus is lost.
